15 Best Animated Movie Moments Of The Decade
11. The Lego Movie - Uni Kitty
The Lego Movie was a movie which had no right to even work, let alone be this good. It could have quite easily came off as lame, a cynical cash grab, or both. Through the extreme characterisation of everyone involved though, it turned out to be just a little bit brilliant.
If we take it that being over the top was the strength of The Lego Movie’s characters, then the Uni Kitty is the clear standout. Alison Brie’s superb exaggerated performance shone the brightest, and offered directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller the biggest flourishes for the spectacular animation.
Swinging between overly cutesy and violently aggressive, the Uni Kitty was the most unpredictable character of the bunch. It was akin to cult cartoon Aggretsuko, and came with a similarly bright red, hyper eclectic visual pallet.
In truth, it’s these moments which really mean Uni Kitty makes the cut. The Uni Kitty is at her best when she’s giving 100%, and that’s most evident in her bursts of apoplectic anger. The blatant sequel tease, the live action sequences with Will Ferrell and Everything Is Awesome were all contenders, but none had the fury of the Uni Kitty.
