15 Best Anime Tie-In Movies Of All Time
5. Violet Evergarden: The Movie
Many people picture one thing when thinking of anime, and that's young men in goofy costumes screaming as they punch things. Admittedly, that does make up a lot of the medium, but there's a depth to anime that explores plenty more facets of storytelling. When it comes to that side, there are perhaps no better examples than Violet Evergarden.
Violet Evergarden's story follows the titular character, a former soldier who attempts to settle into peacetimes by becoming an Auto Memories Doll - i.e. someone who helps people write letters to their loved ones. The movie takes place after the series and is the second feature-length Violet Evergarden flick, furthering the story of Violet's letter writing and search for her beloved Major Gilbert.
Everything about this movie is coated in beauty. The pacing is slow but subtle and the imagery is filled with incredibly crisp animation. Additionally, it's full of romance and sentimentality, playing easily into the series' strengths.
It also delivers a perfect ending for the series that still leaves things open for another season but is satisfying enough to close the story out completely. Very few anime get the luxury of such a heartwarming ending, so fans were delighted with this conclusion.
