15 Best Comedy Movies On Netflix Right Now
14. Superbad
Seth Rogan and writing partner Evan
Goldberg began developing the script for Superbad when they were 13 years old at
school together. Although the film was subsequently sculpted and perfected as
the pair learned their trade as comedy writers, it’s amazing how the film
maintains its authentic look at the awkwardness and excruciating struggle to be
cool at school.
Superbad follows the plight of Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, playing versions of Rogan and Goldberg, as they traverse the obstacles of buying drink for a party with their friend Fogell (better known as McLovin).
The film is a nuanced look at growing up and pulls no punches in representing the smuttiness, depravity and filth of pre-college teenagers. However, there is a relatability and endearing quality to the characters, meaning that despite all the crude comments, dick jokes and desperation these are three lads you can’t help but root for. Superbad is laugh out loud, cringe, buddy-comedy and action all tied up in one well-written, authentic, eerily empathetic bow.
Superbad in name, super funny in nature.
