At a time when nostalgia is king, the soundtrack of American Pie alone makes this entry movie royalty.
The go-to coming of age comedy for a generation, American Pie follows Jim and his hapless friends trying to lose their virginities by Prom night. American Pie was Superbad before Superbad even existed, and amongst the depravity, gross out humour and Stifler-isms, lies a story of friendship, not wanting to grow up and the pressures of youth.
The film brought back the teen movie genre and spawned several sequels of admittedly declining quality. Some of the film and its themes are slightly problematic upon reflection and the film would arguably not be made now, but the original if nothing else is guaranteed to make you laugh.
Expect Blink 182, Third Eye Blind and a completely new perspective on apple pie.
