15 Best Ever Robot Sci-Fi Movies

3. Blade Runner

Westworld Yul Brynner
Warner Bros.

Blade Runner isn't for everyone. The plodding pacing and ambiguous storyline will understandably put some people off, but it's the world-building, mystery and atmospherics that draw many others in.

The iconic neon-soaked dystopian future, where synthetic humans are hunted down, interrogated and mercilessly terminated, is a prime example of complex, dense and intriguing filmmaking.

The robots or "replicants" in Blade Runner are practically indistinguishable from real humans, and it's this distinction of what is truly human that drives the plot, culminating in Ruger Hauer's epic final monologue - one of cinema's defining moments.

Despite its age, the effects still hold up well and the remastered "Final Cut" looks better than ever. A chore to some and a masterpiece to others - Blade Runner is an essential film.
