13. Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Westworld Yul Brynner
TriStar Pictures

The Terminator franchise may have been flogged into mediocrity in recent years but back in 1991, Terminator 2 was the perfect sequel, upping the ante from the original in practically every way: the stakes are higher, the explosions are bigger and the chase scenes are tenser.

Whilst the story is somewhat of a retread of the original, James Cameron keeps it fresh by fleshing out the backstory, putting a clever spin on the original Terminator and by deploying one of the most terrifying villains in cinematic history - the T1000.

The special effects are just incredible, hitting the ultimate sweet spot between practical effects and CGI wizardry in a way that other films can only dream of.

As a result, at nearly 30 years old, Terminator 2 has lost none of its original impact.
