Disney

Disney were always going to make an appearance on this list—whilst there may be few sci-fi efforts in their back catalogue compared to the company’s predilection for princesses and broadsword swinging fantasies, the entertainment monopolizer are nonetheless the world’s largest exporter of feel-good content.

2002’s Hawaii-set story of a misfit alien experiment and the similarly outcast little girl who takes him in is easily the House of Mouse’s sweetest sci-fi outing, and revisiting this minor classic is still a treat as the flick combines its simple, heart-warming story with some inventively silly slapstick and perfect paced character comedy, along with a not-too schmaltzy "family matters" moral, guaranteed to leave you smiling.
