15 Best Hans Zimmer Film Soundtracks

7. Dunkirk

If you could hear sheer tension, it would sound an awful lot like the soundtrack to Dunkirk, another breathtaking war film composed by Zimmer and the latest collaboration between himself and director Christopher Nolan.

The combination of a Shepard tone and Nolan's own pocket watch, heard throughout the entire film, helps immerse the viewer into the mindset of everyone involved with the Dunkirk evacuation, encapsulating their dread and fear of death.

In addition Zimmer's remix of Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations, used in the final scenes, ending Dunkirk on a more hopeful note, is the musical cherry on the top. It is perhaps not Nolan's best film, but it is certainly one of his best crafted and the soundtrack plays a huge part in that.

Best Track: Supermarine

What else could it be? Utter panic, fear and confusion in one song, Supermarine works perfectly for Dunkirk's more scarier moments and provides a different kind of motivational, get something done quickly, music.
