15 Best Horror Movies Of 2017
9. The Eyes Of My Mother
An undeniably uncomfortable watch, The Eyes of My Mother is one of the most oppressive films of the year. From its claustrophobic cinematography to its sensitive subject matter, the black-and-white movie about a family who capture and torture a home invader continues to push more buttons the longer it goes on.
At only 77 minutes, the flick still manages to be a slow burn, but the extended sequences that sometimes linger on brutality and other times let a creepy moment play out in its entirety make sure to sear the film's evocatively haunting images into your memory.
The body horror on display is some of the most powerful of the decade so far, and it doesn't have to resort to gore to make it effective, as even the simple way director Nicolas Pesce chooses to photograph the fragile human frame is enough to make your skin crawl.
The Eyes of My Mother certainly isn't for everyone, but if you're in the mood to completely ruin your day by watching something utterly harrowing, then you can't go wrong with this intentionally ugly movie.
