11. Creep
The found footage subgenre has gone from innovative and original to overused and lazy in the space of just twenty years, however films like Creep are great examples of just how great they still can be.
Written, directed and starring Patrick Brice as Aaron Franklin, Creep follows the story of a videographer who answers an ad from the mysterious Josef, a terminal cancer patient who claims he wants to film some of his life before he dies for his unborn son.
Josef's seriously strange behaviour does a great job in conveying the unsettling feeling so crucial for a found footage flick, and Brice really sells the increasing paranoia of his main character in his debut behind the camera. Based on his strange experiences on Craigslist, Brice decided to focus his attentions on the intricate details that make someone unsettling without them being overtly nasty, focusing a lot of his shots on Josef's eyes, twitches and lack of personal space.
Creep was released in 2015 and has an average rating of 74/100 on Metacritic and 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. Brice returned for a sequel in 2017, with a third film currently in the works.
