5. American Psycho

Based on the ultra-meticulous Brett Easton Ellis novel of the same name, American Psycho trades in the usual cast of horror film characters for a bunch of white-collar, yuppie Manhattanites, creating one of the most unique, visceral, ultimately disturbing entries on this list in the process. Christian Bale's Patrick Bateman openly revels in his murderous insanity, giving this horror-come-satire an extra layer of visciousness. Bale's infamous performance as the obsessive businessman is part ridiculous, part manic, and wholly hilarious. The sight of him with his face half covered in blood - thus making visual the character's uneasy duality - is a horror movie staple, and his dissection of Phil Collins/Genesis before the murder that smears it (his face) is perhaps the most absurd moment of anything on show here - and that's saying something. Easton Ellis has coined this new generation "Generation Wuss" (and boy is he right). Well, one way of deciding who is and who isn't might be to put them through American Psycho.
