15 Best Horror Movies To Watch On Netflix This Halloween
12. Devil
Based on a short story by M. Night Shyamalan, Devil is another one that makes it on more for idea than execution, and while the film received mixed reviews, there's certainly enough about it for a recommendation. Clocking in at only 80 minutes, the film is a brisk exercise, trading-in gore and violence for tension and suspense - to mixed results. The film concerns a group of people trapped in a lift, with the Devil him(her?)self supposedly among them. It's one of those simple setups that often makes for the best horror movies, and though Devil never comes close to reaching those heights, there's enough in the way of acting, mystery, and cinematography - especially cinematography, with legendary horror cinematographer Tak Fujimoto (The Silence of the Lambs) putting in some of his best work - to earn it a place on this list. If anything, Devil is too short, and though single location films often are (think Buried) for obvious reasons, this one could've done with an extra ten minutes or so to wrap it all up. Still, as far as recent M. Night Shyamalan projects go, this is the best of the bunch.
