15 Best Horror Movies To Watch On Netflix This Halloween
11. The Host
The first film to truly shoot visionary director Bong Joon-Ho into the spotlight, Host is a surreal, riotous monster-movie horror, one which the director subverts to include a political strand (mainly as a class-welfare critique) he would later perfect in his masterful Snowpiercer. One of the most successful Korean films of all time, The Host blends horror and sci-fi against a backdrop of memorable set and monster design to craft one of the more distinctive genre films of the last decade. Wonderfully referred to in the Boston Globe as "Godzilla with a severe case of Murphy's Law", The Host doesn't settle for outright carnage (though there is plenty of it), instead tempering the action with a tale of family-dynamics and populace paranoia. Great as a starting point for anybody who wants to know what Bong Joon-Ho is all about, and great as a Netflix Halloween choice in general - and we now really are moving into better horror film territory, with the few mid-level pictures out the way and behind us - The Host shouldn't let you down.
