12. Blair Witch – Snapped In Half

Greasy Strangler
Lionsgate

Let’s be honest: Blair Witch, the long overdue sequel to The Blair Witch Project, really wasn’t that good. Despite the hype when it emerged Adam Wingard’s hush-hush, fake-titled project The Woods would actually be a sequel to the ground-breaking 1999 horror, the film failed to thrill when it hit cinemas with its one-dimensional characters and rehashed plotline.

Even in the most disappointing of horror movies there’s usually at least a few inventive death scenes and what Wingard’s Blair Witch lacks in originality it makes up for with the inventive death of Talia – a purple-haired local who joins Heather Donahue’s younger brother and his friends on an expedition into the woods to find out what happened to his sister.

The Blair Witch is up to her old tricks of hanging creepy stick figures from trees and Talia finds one bound with her unmistakably lilac hair. Seemingly, the Blair Witch has upgraded her magical powers to include voodoo because when one of Talia’s fellow not-so-happy campers snaps the figure in anger it causes Talia’s back to snap in half too leaving her a mangled mess on the forest floor.
