15 Best Movies About Drugs And Addiction In Cinema History

1. Trainspotting

British director Danny Boyle has fashioned some superb pieces of cinema during an illustrious filmmaking career, including the riveting Slumdog Millionaire and grizzly 28 Days Later, but his best piece of work arguably remains a film he created way back in 1996. A film that pulled in over $70,000,000 and had Hollywood in awe. A film that remains one of the best to come out of British cinema. A film called Trainspotting. With Ewan McGregor invigorating in the lead role, Boyle's movie portrays a gang of Scottish drug-addicts, who intermittently commit crimes to help subsidize their heroin addiction. Dark, disturbing, and containing spots of black comedy, Trainspotting shows how protagonist Mark Renton (McGregor) repeatedly attempts to kick the deadly habit, before going through withdrawal and ultimately discovering the tediousness of sobriety. McGregor is rumoured to have considered sampling heroin in order to prepare for his role, and his dedication and involvement in the character of Renton is astonishingly apparent from the off. He's not the only one either, with Robert Carlyle on wicked form as the horrid Begbie and strong performances weighing in from every corner of the screen. Boyle's film manages transcends the typical drug-addict film in how it creates wonderfully colorful characters as well as an exciting story line. Seeing Trainspotting is enough to scare you away from drugs - or maybe even Scotland - for life. Any other drug films that were missed? What's you favourite movie about addiction?
