9. Circus Of Books
Another charming effort from Netflix, the documentary Circus of Books could easily have been a tragic story of homophobia in twentieth century America.
Instead, though, the story of an iconic small Hollywood bookstore which became the centre of gay erotica in America is a sweet, sex positive story of triumph over adversity.
Though the heavy shadow of the AIDS epidemic and systemic bigotry hangs over proceedings, the denizens of this small couple-owned bookstore feel free from the prejudice of the outside world.
The documentary does a fine job following suit, making an uplifting and freeing story of a time defined by censorship and hate alike.
