10. Win It All

The Plot: Gambling addict Eddie (Jake Johnson) is asked to babysit a bag of cash for a pal who is about to do a stretch in prison, but ends up gambling the money away. When his buddy is let out of jail earlier than expected, Eddie has just a week to make all the cash back.

A terrifically entertaining comic drama from indie maestro Joe Swanberg, Win It All finds him and regular collaborator Jake Johnson in peak form in this surprisingly nuanced examination of gambling addiction.

Carefully juggling its tones and never getting too serious or too funny, Swanberg keeps things on an even keel throughout, while layering on just enough tension to make the gambling stakes feel totally palpable.

It might be Johnson's best performance to date, and certainly shows he needs to star in more left-field efforts such as this.
