15 Best Performances In MCU Movies (So Far)

6. Chris Evans - Steve Rogers

Avengers Infinity War Thor
Marvel Studios

While all of the main performers in the MCU have a great grasp on their characters, it could be argued that none have as difficult a job as Chris Evans. Steve Rogers, a.k.a Captain America, is the beating heart of the Avengers, its conscience. He is an upstanding man, a patriot (but not in a weird way), an unshakable man of principle.

That character could so easily be boring. While he lacks Superman’s indestructibility, he could fall into similar traps to the caped crusader - too rigid, too pure. Not in Evans’ capable hands. Yes, Cap is an unassailable force for good, and yes, deep down we know he’s going to save the day in every instance.

As played by Evans, though, none of that is a detriment. He makes Rogers a character you care about deeply. He makes that earnestness, that endlessly good core a key strength. He may not have the depth or the shading of some of the other characters, but the warmth and decency he exudes overcomes this. He also has a killer comic touch which they utilise well. He may not have to dip into the darkness like some others, but the job he does is a lot harder in other ways.
