The long-awaited third feature from Tamara Jenkins (The Savages) stars Kathryn Hahn and Paul Giamatti as a couple desperately trying to get pregnant, whose last hope lies with a sassy college dropout (Kayli Carter).

It sounds like a familiar Sundance indie dramedy set-up, but critics have been quick to praise the performances of Hahn, Giamatti and especially Carter - not to mention Molly Shannon and John Carroll Lynch in supporting roles - in a film that deftly balances its tone, managing to be both hilarious and heartfelt.

Jenkins' decade-plus away from directing has clearly been worth the wait, delivering another welcome dose of poignant, honest emotion.

Private Life hits Netflix on September 21st.
