11. The Kindergarten Teacher

Sara Colongelo won the festival's U.S. Dramatic Directing Award for helming this remake of the highly acclaimed 2014 Israeli drama of the same name, and some critics have even deemed it superior to the original.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has received universal praise for her performance as a teacher who becomes obsessed with one of her 5-year-old art prodigy students, leading to as much awkward discomfort - and apparently black humour, too - as you'd probably hope for.

It sounds like the movie won't be for all tastes, but for those prepared to take the plunge, this new take offers up a distinctly American reinterpretation that stands tall on its own merits.
