15 Best Sci-Fi Movie Sequels EVER
9. Mad Max: Fury Road
Yes,
we almost threw The Road Warrior on this list, but whilst 2015’s Fury Road may
have an advantage in utilising both a new, younger cast and some very modern
technological developments in its filmmaking, this belated addition to the Mad
Max franchise also represents the most intense and unrelentingly thrilling
distillation of the franchise’s potential since the stripped back, brutal original
revenge flick.
Expanding on the mythology of the series’ universe, the constantly kinetic and unbearably tense Fury Road throws us into the action from its opening moments and never lets up until its closing credits roll, with Tom Hardy’s near-mute Max proving a perfect pairing with Charlize Theron’s instantly iconic Furiosa.
Immortan Joe and the War Boys make for some unforgettable and disquieting villains, the crunchy constant chase action is agreeably gory and propulsive, and there’s even an undercurrent of environmentalist/ feminist subtext for anyone interested in digging deeper.
