15 Best Supporting Characters In Sci-Fi Movies
5. Captain Pike - Star Trek (2009)
Christopher Pike has existed in one form or another since Star Trek was first conceived, way back in the '60s.
But the Pike on this list is the one featured in J.J. Abrams' 2009 reboot of Star Trek, as in the alternate timeline shown in the film, Pike serves as a mentor to Kirk, as well as nudging him to join Starfleet in the first place.
Pike served as the first captain to command the Enterprise, and soon encountered the insane Romulan Nero, who had travelled back in time to destroy Vulcan.
Pike was captured and held prisoner, and the film's plot revolves around Kirk and Spock thwarting Nero and rescuing Pike.
Portrayed by Bruce Greenwood, Pike's fate was eerily similar to that of his prime reality counterpart, as the events of the film required him to need a wheelchair.
Seeing Pike take an active role in Kirk's Starfleet beginnings was a true stroke of genius that was appreciated by die-hard fans of the original series, although he was still able to serve as a strong and interesting character in his own right that did justice to the Christopher Pike of old.
