15 Best Supporting Characters In Sci-Fi Movies

10. Gertie - E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

Gertie is possibly the most memorable character in E.T., aside from the titular alien.

Portrayed by an impossibly young Drew Barrymore, she adds to the sense of sweet wholesomeness that makes the film so well-loved.

At first, Gertie is terrified of E.T., because, y'know, why wouldn't she be? There's an alien in her house and she's 5 years old. Gertie eventually warms to him and comes to love the wrinkly little guy.

She gives the extra-terrestrial a makeover, has no idea where Mexico is, and teaches him to speak English, which no one else thought to do. She's also not afraid to tell the powerful little alien that he has gross feet. Someone had to do it.

She embodies the innocence that E.T. made us all feel again, and she delivered what many consider to be the best performance of the film.

Not bad for a seven year old. Hats off, Drew Barrymore.
