3. Kong: Skull Island
Release Date: 10 March (UK/USA)
The thought of yet another King Kong film might be slightly off-putting but the trailer for director Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ new, rebooted take on the classic movie monster looks pretty darn good. Creedence Clearwater Revival’s classic Bad Moon Rising and some ‘Nam inspired shots of choppers flying into sunsets set the 1970s backdrop and thankfully we don’t have to wait too long until we get a glimpse of the titular beast in all his towering, terrifying glory.
Tom Hiddleston’s former SAS officer is joined by John Goodman, Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson, though with the movie’s PG-13 rating he probably won’t be uttering anything about ‘too many mother-f*cking apes on this island’ anytime soon.
John C. Reilly shows up as an eccentric, bearded American dude who appears to have gone native and seems like he’ll be the movie’s main source of laughs, and it looks like Kong won’t be the only supersize animal Hiddleston and Co will be dealing with. Alongside the classic dinosaur inhabitants of Skull Island we’ve see in past outings of King Kong, there’s also a rather ominous looking, gigantic water buffalo and what Reilly’s character refers to as ‘Skull Crawlers’ which are actually a lot scarier than their name would suggest.
