13. Blade Runner 2049
Release Date: 6 October (UK/USA)
A Blade Runner sequel has been in the works since as long ago as the late 90s with the project switching hands and directors a few times, but finally the film is good to go and in the more than capable hands of Arrival and Sicario director Denis Villeneuve.
Warner Brothers have been keeping the real details on the down-low so far, but a brief official synopsis has confirmed that Blade Runner 2049 will focus on LAPD Officer ‘K’, played by Ryan Gosling, who uncovers a secret big enough to destroy what’s left of society and must track down Rick Deckard who’s been missing for three decades. Yes, that’s right – they convinced the curmudgeonly (but wonderfully so) Harrison Ford to come back.
We’ve only been treated to a teaser trailer so far which admittedly doesn’t give much more info but we do get to see some beautifully moody city streets, some seemingly parched and post-apocalyptic landscapes and Gosling and Ford in action. We’ll have to wait until autumn to find out for sure, but we’re calling it now that Harrison Ford pulls another Han Solo and dies before the film is through.
