12. Wonder Woman

Baby Groot Guardians Of The Galaxy vol 2
DC Entertainment

Release Date: 2 June (UK/USA)

Wonder Woman’s highly anticipated solo movie is finally upon us and the official trailer released last November certainly allays any outstanding fears about original director Michelle McLaren’s leaving the film due to ‘creative differences’ or that open letter from a pissed off former Warner Bros employee who lambasted the film as ‘a mess’. Now in the hands of Monster director Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman looks every bit as thrilling as it should do.

The shots we see of the idyllic paradise that is Wonder Woman’s island home Themyscira are cinematography at its best and contrast beautifully with the more drab palette of its World War I scenes.

There’s German soldiers plotting something around a rather nefarious looking chemical gas, a potential romance teased between our hero and US fighter pilot Steve Trevor – which hopefully won’t take up too much running rime because our girl has a World War to win – and best of all, Wonder Woman walking across No Man’s Land deflecting calmly deflecting enemy bullets without even so much as a flinch. Roll on summer.
