14. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Baby Groot Guardians Of The Galaxy vol 2
Marvel Studios

Release Date: 7 July (UK/USA)

With both Sam Raimi’s series and Marc Webb’s reboot, which both coincidentally started out strong but went downhill soon after, still fresh in our memory do we really need another Spider-Man movie? If Tom Holland’s first appearance as Spidey in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming’s trailer is anything to go by, the answer is a resounding yes.

Producer Kevin Feige has compared it to superhero movie crossed with a John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink) coming-of-age film and that’s exactly what the trailer shapes up to be as we see young Peter Parker battle bank robbers and scale skyscrapers but also deal with typical high school problems too.

Tony Stark shows up as Spidey’s somewhat reluctant mentor, but one of the movie’s most exciting prospects is Michael Keaton’s villain Adrian Toomes aka Vulture. Villains traditionally haven’t fared so well in past Spider-Man outings – remember James Franco’s terrible New Goblin in Spider-Man 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man’s unconvincing Lizard? – but the Vulture actually looks impressively intimidating.
