15 Best War Movies On Netflix Right Now
1. The Hurt Locker
The best war movie that Netflix currently has to offer is not set during a global conflict, nor does it focus on soldiers deep in the heat of battle. Rather, The Hurt Locker depicts a more quiet and viscerally intense aspect of war.
Following the exploits of an often dysfunctional bomb disposal unit during the Iraq War, the film's main focus is the character William James, an expert in bomb disposal with an unorthodox and dangerous approach to his work. A daredevil and a reckless man so accustomed to war that home life is something he cannot handle, William's bizarre approach to his job causes rifts between himself and his men, primarily Sergeant Sanborn and rookie Owen Eldridge.
With stylish and unflinching direction from Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow, and career best performances from leads Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie, The Hurt Locker went home with the Best Picture Oscar in 2010 and deserves every piece of praise it has ever received.
Powerful and palpable with tension, The Hurt Locker is everything you want from a war movie and more - harsh, human and completely unforgettable.
