War movies set in World War II often follow a group or two right in the thick of battle. Whether in France, Russia or Germany, most of the more famous war films are about the soldiers who fought on the frontlines.
Then there is 2008's Defiance. Starring Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell and George MacKay as Jewish brothers from Belarus, this war drama sees the foursome escape Nazi occupation and set up a shelter in a nearby forest, where over time they grow a mass Jewish community and must work together to keep everyone safe from the war.
