The Rock sure has been loving himself some trash lately, huh? Skyscraper is the best movie of 1988, back when that movie was actually called Die Hard.

This ersatz knock-off isn't remotely as well-crafted as John McTiernan's superlative action-thriller, but Dwayne Johnson's charisma is so damn persuasive, and it's so firmly committed to its middle-of-the-road, deeply dumb thrills that it actually turns out oddly charming.

From the terrible CGI to the forced Hong Kong setting, the generic-o Eurotrash villains with motives you'll forget before the credits roll and everything in-between, Skyscraper? More like Barrel-Scraper (sorry).

On a slightly serious note, though, wasn't it nice to see an amputee action hero in a Hollywood movie? It's pretty much the only original thing this film has going for it.

"Best" Moment: At the start of the movie, Will Sawyer (Johnson) tells his wife Sarah (Neve Campbell) that a broken phone can almost always be fixed by turning it on and off again.

This is paid off in the film's finale when, in order to reactivate the skyscraper's fire suppression systems, she simply grabs the fancy tablet controlling the building's systems and, yep, turns it on and off again.
