14. The Lonely Island Are Getting A Movie

Lonely Island Musical comedy trio Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, better known to the masses as The Lonely Island, have just sold an untitled comedy pitch to Universal, set in the world of music. There are no details about the film itself, though word is that Judd Apatow will produce, with Schaffer and Taccone co-directing. Taccone's directing credits include MacGruber, while he and Schaffer co-directed Hot Rod, which starred Samberg; so it's safe to assume that this new film will likely be in that same vein. The fact that it's set in the musical world is promising, for the mere fact that we may get something akin to the group's SNL Digital Shorts that took the internet by storm. Lazy Sunday, Dick in a Box, and Natalie's Rap all remain impressive viral hits, so perhaps they will tap back into those comedic stylings and sensibilities for their new cinematic venture. In any case, Justin Timberlake has to make a cameo. Right?
