15 Biggest Unresolved Plot Holes In Harry Potter
3. The Marauder’s Map
The Marauder’s Map is an indispensable item for Harry during his many midnight adventures through the corridors of the castle.
Unfortunately, the capabilities of the Marauder’s Map do raise a lot of questions. For one thing, how did Fred and George not spot Peter Pettigrew? It’s hard to believe the twins never noticed an unknown student hanging around with their little brother. (As the most notorious troublemakers in the school, they would have used the map incredibly frequently.)
And how did they figure out how to use it? The map is activated be saying ‘I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.’ Are we to assume the twins just stumbled upon this sentence? The chances of that happening are close to zero.
If Fred and George had used a powerful Confundus Charm to trick the map into revealing its secrets, this would be a more believable explanation.
