15 Bloody Disgusting Horror Films You Must See Before You Die

10. Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USSnC-1Oq2g If someone shot an actual snuff movie featuring rape, decapitations and a penis being ripped off, would they hold a premiere? An Italian magistrate believed they would, so director Ruggero Deodato found himself arrested on obscenity charges, which he was only able to evade when he produced his actors in court, thus proving he hadn€™t really killed them on camera. If Deodato€™s stark, documentary-style presentation of sexual and physical violence was enough to fool the casual viewer, then the filming of actual violence against animals (a source of tension between cast and crew) would garner Cannibal Holocaust its reputation as €œThe most controversial movie ever made.€ Being banned in a rumoured 50 countries (including Italy and Norway) probably didn€™t hurt either, though in the UK the film was available to rent between February 1982 and July 1983, after which it came to the attention of the Director of Public Prosecutions and was placed on the video nasties list. Prosecuted for obscenity, the picture was banned until 2001, when it was released in an edited version that excised several scenes of animal cruelty and sexual violence.
