15 Break-Out Film Actors Who Ruled 2012

7. Mark Duplass

Mark Duplass A pioneer/mainstay on the indie film scene for years, Mark Duplass made a name for himself as a writer/director (with his brother, Jay) in the Mumblecore movement of indie film (The Puffy Chair, Baghead). With most of their latest films (Cyrus, Jeff Who Lives at Home) they have moved slightly more into the mainstream while keeping their indie cred intact. On top of writing/directing with his brother, Mark has branched out much further into acting €“ not only starring in other indie films, but also television (The League). 2012 was really his breakout year as an actor, starring in numerous films €“ the hilarious, yet heartfelt sci-fi rom-com Safety Not Guaranteed and a trio of family/relationship dramas: Your Sister€™s Sister, My Darling Companion, and People Like Us. He wrapped up the year with a small, but pivotal role in the highly acclaimed politcal-war-thriller Zero Dark Thirty. What€™s Next: Peachfuzz, which he co-wrote and produced with his brother Jay and just became the first film sold at this year€™s Sundance Film Festival. He will also continue his work on TV show The League.
