5. Threat Of "Rape" - Fury

One of the weirder scenes in David Ayer's thrilling war movie takes place when Norman (Logan Lerman) and Collier (Brad Pitt) take refuge in a German house with two women, one of whom is Emma (Alicia von Rittberg), an attractive young lady of Norman's approximate age. The two clearly have a certain chemistry, and it leads to the pair having sex in Emma's bedroom while Collier talks to her cousin. Collier prompts Norman by saying, "She€™s a good clean girl. If you don€™t take her into that bedroom, I will", an uncomfortable line which seems to be saying, "I don't care if she's interested in me or not, but if you don't have sex with her, I'm gonna do it." Granted, it's a tense time for all involved and probably strangely truthful of the sort of sentiments typical in such a situation (after all, soldiers ravaging the locals is extremely common in any war), but it nevertheless stirred up a storm online once the film began screening, as it appeared to somewhat reduce the unambiguously heroic stature of Pitt's character. Still, few are going to walk away from Fury thinking that Pitt's comment was particularly savoury or "right", so there's that...
