15 Controversial Movies That Actually Live Up To The Hype

3. Natural Born Killers

The Film:

This Oliver Stone thriller depicts a murderous couple rampaging across America and the media turning them into celebrities. It's satire of the darkest and bitterest kind.

The Controversy:

Oliver Stone rarely makes films that aren't controversial but this might be his single most controversial film. This time around it was the brutal violence that landed Stone in hot water. Many crimes have been linked to this movie - in fact, this might be the film accused of inciting the most violence ever. One victim who was paralyzed following a shooting linked to this film sued the film's makers and producers.

Crimes this was linked to include the Heath High School Shooting, the Richardson Family Murders, the Frontier Middle School Shooting, the Dawson College Shooting and the Columbine High School Massacre.

Why It Was Right:

Natural Born Killers is a gruesome, gory movie and the violence hits very hard. It's made particularly powerful thanks to how relevant its points about the mass media really are and how graphic the killings are.

It's a very fine film, but it certainly isn't for the faint of heart. Due to the sheer number of crimes it has been linked to, it's the rare case where one does start to feel that a film has genuinely caused many deaths. This is just as amoral, nasty and intense as people say it is.
