15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Marvel Cinematic Universe

12. Stan Lee's Cameos Have Become Boring

Without question, Marvel head honcho Stan Lee has earned the right to do pretty much whatever he wants in these movies, and while making ham-fisted cameos isn't exactly doing the films much harm, after sitting through them for so many years, they've started to feel rather played out and arbitrary. The formula is pretty much this: Lee appears on screen in a humourous role for a few seocnds, does something goofy, pulls a funny face, everyone in the audience has a little laugh (and casual viewers feel smart for noticing a nerdy reference), before the film gets back to whatever it was doing previously. As likeable and iconic a figure as Lee is, his cameos pull audiences out of any drama that's taking place, and though these movies are for the most part relatively light-hearted anyway, there's the feeling these cameos are soon enough going to become more groan-inducing than funny. What Can Be Done About It?: Scale back his appearances or, more agreeably, make his cameos more subtle. Take a more Hitchcock-esque approach, subtly inserting him into scenes, forcing viewers to have to freeze-frame the Blu-ray in order to find him.
