15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Marvel Cinematic Universe
11. Agent Coulson Is Alive, Whether You Like It Or Not
The most emotionally affecting moment in the MCU to date came when Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) was murdered by Loki mid-way through The Avengers. His demise forced the team to realise that they needed to band together to save humanity, though this was promptly undone for the TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., where it's revealed that Phil was resurrected using complex alien technology. It may undermine the emotional impact of the original scene and seem rather manipulative, but fans just need to get over it and accept that this is the direction moving forward. It may reduce the stakes of characters "dying" if they can just be resurrected with a magic trinket, but in a world with so many more ridiculous things (like a talking raccoon), it shouldn't be that hard to deal with. What Can Be Done About It?: Smartly, Marvel have kept Coulson out of all MCU films since The Avengers. Though this creates a certain disconnect between the TV series and the movies, it's a compromise that means the rather lazy resurrection premise doesn't poison the quality of future films, and also that it doesn't confuse audiences who haven't been watching the show. Keep Coulson to the TV series, and those who don't like it simply need not watch it, pretending that it doesn't exist.
