15 Crazy Facts You Have To Accept To Enjoy Star Wars Movies
11. The Clone Wars Weren't Always What They Are Now
Fans of the original trilogy have been arduously protesting against the existence of the prequel trilogy and their effects on the originals. However, the prequels have been in the cards since the inception of the very first Star Wars movie. Most of the details had to be shelved due to time constraints, but an important line from Obi Wan Kenobi still lingers.
After Kenobi saves Luke from the Tuscan Raider and returns him to his home, he presents Luke with his father's lightsaber. It is here that he recounts the Empire wiping out the Jedi during the Clone Wars, and saving Princess Leia's father - Bail Organo. It's a small moment and many may miss the reference, but it does its job in laying the foundation for the prequel trilogy.
What's even more interesting is that, unlike much of the Star Wars sage, what the Clone Wars actually was hadn't been fully decided on. In early drafts of Empire Strikes Back, George Lucas considered making Lando Calrissian a clone from a larger clone world, before disregarding the idea.
The details continued to be extremely secretive with Lucas withholding the rights to use the conflict in novels and comics, even telling legendary Star Wars author Timothy Zahn to rewrite a massive section of Heir to the Empire.
In fact, the revelation that the Clones were fighting for the Republic was a massive twist for fans, who had been speculating that they were the enemy for years. Nowadays, we know better and it's a fully accepted fact, but it's still fascinating to think of the conflict's different interpretations.
