It has become a franchise staple that Jedi, after their deaths, have the potential to project themselves through the Force as ghost-like figures. But Jedi aren't the only ones in the franchise that inhabit this spectral realm.

In 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - a prequel to Episode IV - Grand Moff Tarkin reappeared, having been absent from the films since the latter one. The inclusion of the character made a lot of sense given that the Rogue One revolved around the Death Star, which he would go on to command in the destruction of Alderaan. Despite this, his inclusion was a complete surprise for many older fans, not because the character had been absent for so long, but rather because Peter Cushing had already been dead for 22 years before Rogue One was released.

Yes, technology has evolved to the point of being able to resurrect familiar faces of days gone by with CGI. Cushing's likeness was digitally imposed onto actor Guy Henry, who continued the Tarkin legacy.

The move sparked great ethical discussion, as well as controversy and praise alike, but as far as Star Wars is concerned: "No one's ever really gone."
