15 Crazy Facts You Have To Accept To Enjoy Star Wars Movies
9. It Doesn't Matter Who Rey Is
Remember that other strong opponent for most controversial entry mentioned earlier? Well, here it is. Rey's lineage does not matter. Not. One. Bit.
And boy do people that hate that it doesn't. Episode VIII - The Last Jedi - certainly brought the heat from audience members (but not critics) when it came out in 2017. Whether people were annoyed with the style of humour, or Luke's more self-doubting depiction, or even that none of the characters really succeed in what they set out to accomplish, few could warm to it. But Rey's heritage? That's another story altogether.
Since the release of The Force Awakens back in 2015, many fans across the world have been dissecting any small clues they could find in cracking the mystery of Rey, the latest Jedi in the saga. Unfortunately for many, Kylo Ren's statement that Rey's parents were nobodies, which seemingly confirms what Rey already knows, created mass disappointment.
But it really doesn't matter whom Rey comes from. The Last Jedi did a brilliant job on the storyline, illustrating that Rey is able to craft her own way in this world. Even if The Rise of Skywalker brings about a different conclusion on her heritage, it still won't really affect who Rey is as a rising Jedi. By keeping the identity secret, the franchise is able to give Rey complete agency - something that a hero of her status should have.
