15 Critically Mauled Movies (That Aren't Actually That Bad)

7. Furry Vengeance

Furry Vengeance Brendan Fraser
Summit Entertainment

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 7%

Consensus: "A thin premise stretched far beyond serviceable length, Furry Vengeance subjects Brendan Fraser -- and the audience -- to 92 minutes of abuse."

This movie was widely regarded as a huge turkey, but looking back on it... was it really as bad as all that?

True, it is a very thin premise stretched out awkwardly to feature length, but it's not nearly as terrible you've heard. It is essentially a collection of gags rather than a fully-fledged movie, but as collections of gags go you could certainly do a lot worse (looking at you, Grown Ups).

Furry Vengeance is funny. It's funny in a very stupid sort of way, but it is funny. It works where other silly comedies failed by getting the tone just right; it's never mean-spirited or ugly and there is a sense of charm, while it's also fully aware that it's just a silly kids movie and should give young audience members plenty of chuckles.

This is a universally-hated movie by critics and audiences alike, but it needs some defending and the staggeringly low RT score is unfair, although the consensus is quite funny.
