The insanely successful hit horror film that kicked off the found footage craze was never going to be everyone's cup of tea, but in no universe is this film a serious Worst Picture nominee.

A highly influential and acclaimed minimalist horror flick, The Blair Witch Project was nominated alongside Adam Sandler's Big Daddy, the terrible The Haunting remake, Star Wars: Episode I and ultimate winner Wild Wild West. It clearly sticks out from all of them.

Then there's lead actress Heather Donahue, who was not only nominated for but won her Worst Actress Razzie, presumably because some people found her performance overly hysterical and shouty.

Then again, she was completely convincing as an actual human being placed in a terrifying situation, so there's just no way she belonged in Razzie contention.
