15 Most Epic Trailer Moments From 2014's Biggest Films

15. Need For Speed - Aaron Paul Takes Leading Man Duties

Let's be honest - nine out of ten people reading this article wouldn't be showing the slightest bit of interest in the adaptation of the hugely successful racing video game, Need For Speed, if it didn't star a hugely loveable actor who became a pop-culture icon by yelling the word b***h in every other episode of one of the greatest television drama series' ever made. Sporting the premise that reads as if it was devised by an AS Level Media Studies student that has only chosen the subject for a doss - "After being released from prison for a crime that he didn't commit, a street racer, Tobey Marshall (Paul), is set to race cross-country and avenge the death of his friend Pete" - you already pretty much know how this one is going to pan out. Added is the fact that video game adaptations infuriatingly have the knack of being abysmal affairs, Need For Speed would have 'FAILURE' written all over it in an alternate reality. However, it seems to have taken a page out of the Fast & Furious franchise by making the cars the supporting attraction. Cars may have a big part in the trailer, but it is Aaron Paul being shown off to the public, as the makers probably can't even begin to describe how lucky they must be feeling to have an actor as talented as Paul to be in a film that looks like it's going to fall into generic conventions, and take itself a bit too seriously as well judging by the trailer as he dramatically reads poetry whilst angrily driving bugatti's and punching Dominic Cooper in the face. But Need For Speed will rejoice in the fact that it will most probably become a hit. Firstly it targets the general film-goers that don't watch films as obsessively as the readers of this glorious site, but are importantly car fans and Top Gear viewers. Then it targets video game fans, and anyone who has the slightest interest in racing games has played at least one edition of the famous franchise. And last, but certainly not least, it targets every Breaking Bad and television drama fan who are still struggling to cope with life without Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Paul could probably do better than a film such as this (you'll also see him next year as a supporting player in Ridley Scott's biblical drama Exodus, alongside the likes of Christian Bale and Ben Kingsley - a much larger possibility of becoming a critical darling) but he must be over the moon to land his first leading man role and continue to be given the chance to prove that he has star power. It's not the fast car chases that makes this trailer cool, it's Aaron Paul.
