15 Essential Horror Movies Since 2000 You Might've Missed

6. Mum & Dad

Dysfunctional families are always great to spend time with, just so long as there's a cinema screen separating you from them - outright psychopathic families make ideal subjects for some of the greatest horror movies of all time, and the parents in Mum And Dad is a more than worthy addition to their ranks. Olga Fedori does good work as the plucky, indefatigable victim of the family, kidnapped and forced to do whatever is asked of her, but it's Perry Benson as Dad who stands out. He'll be a familiar face to many audiences in the UK, having appeared in television series such as Grange Hill and Doctor Who, which only makes his sickening on-screen behaviour all the more outrageous. Survival horror-meets-Eastenders via The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Mum & Dad might not take horror movies in radical new directions but it's lean, very mean and packs a real punch with the grand guignol finale.
