15 Essential Horror Movies Since 2000 You Might've Missed

1. Creep

Franka Potente knows more than a few things about running - it's pretty much all she did in her breakthrough film Run Lola Run. With Creep she gets to make use of her good legs in one of the spookiest settings imaginable - the London Underground. The idea of getting trapped in the Underground in and of itself is hardly an appealing one - throw in a grotesque deformed killer and it's a recipe for a real nightmare. Just as Session 9 made the most of an abandoned lunatic asylum, here director Christopher Smith mines the damp-drenched passages and drafty tunnels of the tube system for all the atmosphere he can. Potente plays the scream queen admirably but it's Sean Harris as the Creep who sticks in the mind - Harris went all method, refusing to get out of character during shooting (although presumably not going so far as to physically attack the cast and crew), and the end result is one of the most underrated disturbing and, well, creepy horror villains you'll ever see. What other essential horror movies have you seen since 2000 which people might've missed? Why not tell us about them in the comments?
