15 Essential Horror Movies Since 2000 You Might've Missed
13. The House Of The Devil
Released in 2009, The House Of The Devil is another low budget horror movie which sadly slipped most people by, making a measly $100,000 at the box office against its modest $900,000 budget. The points of reference here are clear to all horror fans within the first few minutes - paying homage to The Amityville Horror and "Satanic Panic" movies of the 1970s and 80s are clearly on director Ti West's agenda, which is no bad thing when the nods and winks are done with such skill and obvious affection. West makes the most of every nook and cranny in the house in which the hapless babysitter Samantha Hughes (played by Jocelin Donahue) finds herself, while there's a wonderful short-lived (quite literally) appearance from the always excellent Greta Gerwig.
