15 Essential Horror Movies Since 2000 You Might've Missed

14. Splinter

Even hardcore horror fans could well have missed out on Splinter - it was released in theatres for only a short time, before quietly emerging on home media. Taking place in a single location - a backwater gas station in the middle of nowhere - Splinter takes the concept of zombies and reanimated corpses in new directions by having dismembered parts of victims' bodies take on a life of their own, before merging with the main creature to form a Thing-like deformed beast. Tongue-in-cheek and full of gloriously disgusting special effects, Splinter belies it's micro-budget origins and holds its own against the best movies the genre has to offer.
