15 Essential Horror Movies Since 2000 You Might've Missed

11. The Battery

When it comes to low budget movies they don't come much cheaper than $6,000, and despite the fact The Battery was funded for such a miniscule price the result holds up against many more expensive horror movies in the department which counts the most - the writing. Former baseball players Ben (Jeremy Gardner) and Mickey (Adam Cronheim) are caught up in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, ambling aimlessly through the backroads of middle America in the hope of finding somewhere safe to stay. Eschewing blood and carnage in favour of character development, The Battery is perhaps the most unusual zombie movie of all time. More concerned with delivering a character study than on-screen gore, The Battery is a fresh take on a well-worn genre which proves that a huge budget is no replacement for a solid screenplay.
