In Percy Jackson + the Lightning Thief, the Greek gods learn that Zeus' thunderbolt has been stolen. His nephew, Percy, who is living a normal life in a modern world, is suspected of being the one to nab his god-uncle's lightning, forcing him on an adventure with legendary characters.

The film adaption is despised by book fans because it changed so many story elements. The main characters are 12, not 16. Also, nearly every important character was removed from the film including the two main villains, Ares, and Kronos. Instead, the big bad is... just... some kid.

Even though the book version of Hades harbours the soul of everyone who ever died, whether they're good or bad, the film turned this realm into the Catholic version of Hell, (which doesn't make sense when you're adapting a Greek-inspired story). Despite the fact Book Hades is more reasonable than gods like Zeus or Poseidon, the film changed him so he's basically the Devil. (Again, wrong religion.)
